How Do I Make Money With Blogging?

There is a reason to read the rest of my article. That I will show you the exact numbers in my mediavine dashboard. And explain to you what caused this crazy difference in profitability between these two blogs that are monetized. Also how beginners can do blogging and make as much money with ads as possible, even for a lower traffic. Now let's go to my ad income on these blogs that I monetize with media vine.

First of all, for those of you who are very new to this blogging world, let me clarify.

Media Vine Ads For Beginners In Blogging

Media Vine is a premium ad management company and is just one of several similar companies. But I like working with Media Vine the most, and you can blame me. I just like it when you just start a blog. You can hardly get into Media Vine right away. You will need to a minimum of 50,000 monthly sessions on your blog to apply for this network.

People often ask me, What do I mean by sessions?

Are they visitors to a site? Well, almost, but not exactly.

Sessions is a metric that Google Analytics tracks. The number of unique visitors is slightly different from the number of sessions in your analytics and media. Vine just prefers to use sessions for their own reasons. So keep that in mind when your traffic is very low, I wouldn't recommend running ads at all.

Even if you get your site into Google AdSense, it's just not worth it, in my opinion. Because Google AdSense typically pays very little compared to premium ad networks. But once you reach about 10,000 monthly sessions on your blog. You could apply for four Ezike or money metric.

But getting back to Media Vine, there are also other requirements to get accepted to Media Vine.

Traffic Requirements

Your traffic should come from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom and some other countries in Europe.

But generally they will want you to have about 70% of your traffic from the United States. That's where Pinterest's platform can really help you improve your stats.

You see, even if your blog gets a good amount of organic traffic from Google. It will be oftentimes very mixed and you'll get quite a lot of international traffic from other English spoken countries.

This can drastically reduce your ad income. Because advertisers are paying a lot more for showing ads on your blog to American audiences. And also to get a lot more traffic from the US to keep your ad revenue per thousand visitors.

How To Get Traffic To Your Website?

Pinterest helped me not only to grow traffic to my blog faster than I could ever do it with Google CEO, but it also helped me get mainly traffic from the United States because Pinterest is mostly popular in this country. International audience of Pinterest is also growing, but still, users from the United States makes the biggest share of the user base on this platform. By the way, I made my first thousand dollars with ads on my blog before the blog was one year old.

Once I was accepted to media one and I totally got it, sometimes I see income reports of people who claim to make over 200,000 monthly with blogs, and I find it hard to believe. To be honest, I even found it unrealistic to make about 5000 with my blog when I just started.

But eventually it went way beyond my wildest dreams with this blogging business, so the sky's the limit. With time and persistence, you can check some of my previous income reports that I will link in the info I can. And of course, ad income is not my biggest income stream now because I've been doing this for about four years, so I diversified.

First Ad Income For My Blog

And now I'm going to tell you the first ad income for my blog in the media vine dashboard. I started this blog in February of 2017, and my first full month with a media line was in January of 2018, so it was not even one year old.

And this month, I made over 14 hundred dollars on this blog and what is going on here that makes my blog with lower traffic. Earn more ad income than this blog that gets about twice more traffic. My newer blog, it's newer not only the date when I created it, but also the date, obviously when it was added to Media Line first. So this blog is newer. It has about two times lower traffic, but the r.p.m. revenue per thousand of visitors is like double or I mean, it's twice. It's twice as high as my main blog. I did contact media and support multiple times to try and figure out

What's going on? They always come up with great advice on what can be improved, and one of the reasons initially was that my main blog had a smaller font and that affected me. And I also didn't have enough space, big enough space between the lines.

Traffic Countries For My Blog

And I did correct that in the theme and I waited for another month and I still couldn't see a huge improvement. It still was twice lower than for my mom's health blog. But let's have a deeper look into the analytics, and you will find that this site always has slightly different performance on this ticket side. Bar ads on my blogger site is really in this zone of it's called teal when when you have the star here for mom's health, I almost always have it very high.

But this couldn't be the main reason why it's so different. So I had to dig even further when I looked at the analytics for the countries. I found that's why I focus so much on the traffic from the United States.

So you can see here that for my blog I am getting about 67.3% of sessions from the United States. The second place is Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany and so on. So you can see here the r.p.m. for the United States was 25.9. For Canada, it's twice lower and then all the other countries are even lower.

So you can see here that there's a huge difference between the r.p.m. that you can get. Fewer users are coming mostly from the United States.

Statistics For Mum's Health Site

If I look at the same statistics for mum's health site, I had 85% of traffic. It's 20% more off traffic from the United States. And even so, my traffic from the United States and from Canada and from all of the other countries, my RPMs are much higher for mom's health. So we were digging even more with media buying support.

And what we found was that the difference is such a huge difference in r.p.m. could be also related to the fact that on my site, a huge amount of content doesn't show any ads. I'll tell you why.

So you know that my site has always been my playground for experiments with Pinterest. And if you go to my Pinterest account, you will see that I have lots of different topics and all of them are together under the same brand, like under the same domain. So I'm not super niche with this blog. So I have the main category that you can see on my homepage. It's when I talk about blogging, about Pinterest marketing, and that's what you will find in the category blogging and on all of this articles in the blogging category, I'm blocking media vine ads because it makes more sense for me to keep users on the site and send them from my articles to my email list, or maybe to my Pinterest master class or to my course directly.

And that's what I do.

I have all these articles without media Vine ads. So if you look at the definition of RPM, it's a calculation determining how much revenue was earned per thousand page views or sessions. So if you think about it, I get a lot more traffic on my site.

Meaning of Rpm & Sessions For Beginners In Blogging

But a huge amount of this page uses these sessions. They are not going to show any media Vine ads. That means that for many thousands of these visits that I'm getting from Google or whatever from Pinterest, I'm not showing ads, but at the same time they're still counted in my sessions. That means that without doing any change, if I just opened the ads on these pages, it would improve my RPM hugely because RPM is just a technical number and it comes from the session.

The amount of sessions and the revenue earned presales of those sessions. Many of these thousands of sessions on my site have no ads at all, and thus my RPM on site is significantly lower.

I just wanted to get back to this number of sessions because you might be wondering, so how did this happen?

How Beginners Can Get US Traffic For Their Blogging Site

If you want to see are always talking about Pinterest traffic, how did it happen that the United States traffic on the stage of bloggers? Com site is just six to 7% when on my other blog, it's 85% why I am not controlling this and why I'm not improving it on Anastasia Blogger dot com site. So the thing is, I still get a lot of traffic from Pinterest.

But over time, this site and the stage of blogger dot com gained some authority with Google. And so the percentage of Google traffic increased over the years, and it also reflected in the distribution of countries. So with Pinterest, beginners can almost be sure that traffic will come mostly from the United States in their blogging site. Whereas with Google traffic, there is much bigger distribution across the board, across the different countries. So it's a lot of international traffic and mostly Google CEO is responsible for this international traffic.

Should I Remove My Site From Google

Of course, I will not remove my site from Google issue and will not do anything to hurt my positions in Google, just to improve r.p.m. on the site. It doesn't make sense because my site is a site that also makes me a lot of money through selling my course through selling some kind of, you know , other kind of affiliate products.

So there are other monetization strategies I already mentioned. I have a blog called EUR. We do ten K course, but today I just wanted to focus on the RPMs and comparing the income as income for these two of my blogs just to show you the inside or look of things that you as a beginner, you might not even realize how the things really work. And so I hope it was helpful.

By the way, I wanted to note here that I'm not affiliated with mediavine in any way. I hope for beginners, this article would help them a lot in their blogging journey.
